Studying the Signature Level 1 Award in British Sign Language presents a different way of communicating. You will learn many new skills, including a practical approach to the grammar of British Sign Language, signs relating to everyday life and how to fingerspell.
The topics covered include: Greeting people, exchanging information, numbers, weather, transport, describing people, animals and objects, interests and activities, directions and refreshments.
The qualification is split into three units:
You will start with basic everyday signs, fingerspelling and simple conversation. The assessment is a conversation between you and your teacher. Your teacher will assess you.
As your confidence grows, so will your vocabulary in a range of everyday topics. The assessment is a conversation between you and your teacher. It will be assessed by Signature.
You will gain more knowledge of BSL grammar and sentence structure. This unit’s assessment is a conversation between you and your teacher. It will be assessed by Signature.
