Studying British Sign Language
Information for Students

Who are SignPost Communications?
SignPost Communications are an external training provider, delivering British Sign Language courses at a number of local colleges, schools and community venues throughout the Sefton, North Liverpool and West Lancashire areas.

Do you have a course venue near me?
Details of our course programme and a list of venues for the current academic year, can be found in the enrolment section of our website here.

When do your courses run?
We offer a core programme of regular courses, usually lasting for 30 weeks. These commence in mid September every year, finish at May half term, and lead to a fully accredited OFQUAL qualification if students successfully complete the three (optional) unit assessments.

From time to time, we also deliver a range of 6 – 8 week ‘taster’ courses via a network of community partnerships. These also lead to an (optional) fully accredited OFQUAL entry level qualification.

What sort of things will I learn?
An overview of the Level 1 course can be found here.
An overview of the Level 2 course can be found here.

Do I have to complete the assessments?
All of the courses delivered by SignPost Communications include assessment elements, but none of these are compulsory. We believe that assessment should always be optional. Course enrolments from students wishing to attend on a ‘tuition only’ basis are equally welcomed.

How do I enrol for a place?
Online enrolment for our core programme opens on 1 June every year, and places are allocated on a first come, first served basis. For the current academic year, we are delivering Level 1 (Beginner) and Level 2 (Intermediate) courses. You can enrol here.

Can I pay by instalments?
Yes. We offer six-month instalment plans to students enrolling on any of our 30 week courses, at no additional cost. Monthly instalments cover tuition and assessment fees.

I’ve left it too late! Can you send me a reminder to enrol next time?
Absolutely! You can subscribe to the course enquiry / mailing list on our website, simply by entering your email address. There’s a highlighted section for this at the bottom of every page. Every email that we send also contains a link allowing you to unsubscribe again, if you wish.

Is there anything else I need to know?
A copy of our terms and conditions of enrolment are available online, and can be found here.
